Tuckamore Lodge is located on the world-famous Northern Peninsula of the Island of Newfoundland. Newfoundland has long been noted for moose and caribou hunting. The moose population on the Island is estimated at one hundred and thirty thousand animals! Our moose hunters at Tuckamore Lodge enjoy a 96% hunter opportunity rate.
Hunting at Tuckamore Lodge is done from either of two locations; Tuckamore lodge is located in the community of Main Brook, near the top of the Northern Peninsula. Its remote outpost camp, JB Outfitters, is located one and a half hours away, in the same area and is reached by vehicle and Argo. Tuckamore Lodge is a truly elegant facility, offering world-class service and amenities. While JB Outfitters camps are located in the bush, all modern amenities are provided. It is the case at both lodges that you’ll enjoy a fantastic hunting experience with simply great food, featuring traditional Newfoundland cuisine, and warm, clean and comfortable lodging.

Hunts are of 7 days duration, with 6 days of hunting, and are from Sunday to Sunday. Pick-up and return to the airport in Deer Lake is included at no additional fee. Please note that meals, guides, lodging and the moose hunting license is also included. Processing of your meat is available locally at $50-$60 dollars per quarter, depending on the size of your moose. 15% in Federal and Provincial taxes are extra, but 7 ½ % is rebated to you, as required under Canadian law.
Your guides will be natives of the Island who are intimately familiar with the hunting areas and the habits of the moose and caribou. They are expert callers and will whisper “sweet nothings” to the bulls, bringing them within range and offering ethical opportunities to harvest your animal. Field dressing, game retrieval, trophy prep and transportation to a local processor is included. Meat may be taken with you when you depart or shipped to your home after your return.
Despite the high moose per mile density, guests need to understand that this is a remote hunt for a very wary, very wild, and observant animal. We have hunted moose in Newfoundland a number of times in past years and we never fail to describe to customers that we compare moose hunting in Newfoundland to deer hunting in Maine! These animals are spooky and very sensitive to scent and motion from hunters! They do not stand around and wait for you to shoot!
Tuckamore Lodge & JB Outfitters provides the premier moose/caribou hunting experience available in Newfoundland today. Contact us today for more information and availability.
Note: Guests must be aware that both lodges employ a strict policy that states that a wounded or lost animal becomes yours and that, should you wound and lose an animal, your hunt is considered over. This policy is intended to eliminate the possibility of hunters taking an inappropriate, unethical or careless shot at an animal
