Our Maine Guide School prepares you to take Maine’s

Hunting, Fishing and Recreation

Guide’s License Exam

Why take our course?

We teach from experience!

With over 30 years of experience guiding and outfitting trips throughout North and South America, as well as managing a 30-guest traditional Maine sporting camp, we know the skills you need to not only pass the Maine Guide Exam but to be successful Maine Guides. We use our experience to teach the material, not just present it.

Nearly 85% of our students pass their exam on the first try!!

Maine’s Guide License Exam is considered one of the toughest in the country. The Maine Guide licensing board sees a failure rate of first time applicants, greater than 60%. Why not put the odds in your favor?

What will you learn?

The Maine Guide exam covers a great deal of information applicable to the license that you are testing for. We spend our time covering the material that you will likely see, so you can focus your studying and preparation efforts. Aside from the test material, we also make you better outdoorsmen and women.

Map & Compass

You will learn how to read a map, measure distance, and use your compass with the map and in the field.

Emergency Situations

We will cover in detail, how to prepare for and deal with an emergency situation such as a hurt or lost client.

Laws, Rules & Ethics

Hunting, fishing, boating, ATV, and Snowmobiling laws are covered. We will also discuss laws and professional ethics applicable specifically to registered guides.

Boating & Canoeing

You will learn canoe paddle strokes, canoeing terms, boating safety, river and lake rescue techniques, and boating laws.

Species Identification

All test candidates will be asked to identify mammals, waterfowl, fish, and even occasionally plants and trees.

Business Management

Although not a topic that you will be tested on, we want to see class participants successful in their business as well as the exam. We will discuss insurance, websites, advertising, marketing, keeping clients happy & coming back, and much more.

Much, much more...

There are more topics than we can list including firearms, fly-fishing, trapping, cold and hot weather injuries, packing gear, food storage and meal preparation, setting up a campsite, and the list goes on…

Carroll and Lila,

I passed my hunting guide test the first time! I recently went back and passed my fishing on the first try as well. Neither of these would have been possible without your class! Thanks again for all your help!
