Bahamas Bonefishing

Bonefishing in the Bahamas on South Andros Island

Deep Creek Lodge is located on South Andros Island in the spectacular island chain known as The Bahamas. This world-class destination provides incredible sandy beaches, snorkeling, scuba diving, just plain old hangin’ out and yes, the other activity that keeps us coming back and is simply put, incredible: BONEFISHING!!!!!!!!!

South Andros Island is home to some of the largest bonefish caught anywhere in the Caribbean. Wading the endless flats, or casting from the deck of a flats skiff as you and your guide watch for feeding or “tailing” bones will make your pulse race! Bonefish primarily eat crabs and shrimp, and often when they are feeding on a shallow flat, you’ll see clouds of mud as they scruff the bottom looking for a meal. As a reasonable estimate, the average bonefish caught and released in the Bahamas is in the 2-5 pound range. However, bonefish in and around the South Andros Island waters tend to be much larger that their cousins in the rest of the Caribbean. Double digit bones are very common here, and are taken on a regular basis by Deep Creek Lodge anglers. The guides, including Deep Creek’s founder, Nathaniel, are experts at spotting the fish often referred to as “the Ghost of the flats.” These fish can be very difficult to see with an untrained eye so when your guide says, “ten o’clock, forty feet,” trust him and just make the cast a good one!

IMG_2276Deep Creek Lodge’s sleeping accommodations and additional buildings were completed recently, in October of 2015. A brand new facility awaits our customers providing all modern amenities. Tile floors, air conditioning, and spotless sleeping quarters await! Meals are prepared by either Nathaniel or his staff, all natives of the Bahamas, who are just delightful people who are there to make your stay the trip of your lifetime. Meals are fantastic, served in traditional fashion and will include fish and vegetables cooked to perfection by your chef.
Deep Creek Lodge is situated in one of the world’s most pristine and scenic locations. South Andros Island is the ultimate destination for those seeking the true Caribbean fishing experience.
